Sean attended The University of Maimi in Coral Gables, Florida. As a freshman, he received playing time on special teams and nickel and dime defensive formations. Sean was awarded Big East Special Teams Player of the Week in the game against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Sean also received a significant amount of playing time in the 2001 national championship game when Miami beat Nebraska 37-14 at The Rose Bowl.
In his first year as a full-time starter Sean shined. He led the teams's defensive backs in tackles, interceptions, and passes defended. Sean also led the team to a second consecutive national championship appearance. Sean had a career high eleven tackles and two interceptions in the close loss to the Ohio Buckeyes.
In his final year as a Hurricane Sean made history. He led the nation in interceptions with ten and returned three of those interceptions for touchdowns (team record). Sean was named to the first-team All-American list, Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and was a Jim Thorpe Award finalist. Though the 'Canes didn't make it to the ship, Sean put himself in excellent position for the NFL Draft.
