Rosebud Indian Reservation is located in the southern part of the state in South Dakota. It was established in 1889 by partition of the Great Sioux reservation which itself was created to cover all of West River, South Dakota in 1868. In the Picture above shows where the Rosebud Reservation is exactly located. The picture on the left is a picture of what the land looks like out on the reservation and the picture on the right is what the Rosebud Reservation flag looks like. The image at the bottom of the page is a picture of the famous Crazy Horse statue that is being created out in South Dakota. The monument is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The statue is of Crazy Horse riding a horse and he is pointing into the distance. The monument has been in progress since 1948 and is still far from completion. When finished It will be the worlds larges statue. The Statue is be sculptured by Korczak Ziolkowski who has worked on Mount Rushmore not to far from the Crazy Horse Memorial. There have been many chiefs in the Rosebud tribe which is also known as the Oglala Lakota or Oglala Sioux Tribe. The Oglala Sioux along with six other groups of Lakota had separated from each other by the early 19th century and by 1830 the Oglala had somewhere around three thousand members. In the 1820's and 1830's the Oglala, along with Brule and three other Sioux sects, formed the Sioux Alliance. This Alliance caused much warfare between the Western Sioux and surrounding tribes for territorial and hunting reasons.
