The Art of
Drawing
Story Telling Styles
As the name suggests, story-telling styles are drawing styles
that are used to tell stories to the viewer or reader. These stories are told
through interactions between the characters depicted, and the settings shown.
Cartoons
Cartoons are typically two-dimensional drawings, and are usually
either non-realistic or semi-realistic. Cartoons are mostly
intended for satire or humor, and meant for younger audiences.
Many different cartoonists have many different ways of drawing
their cartoons. Because of this, no two styles of cartoon are
identical. This means that there could be hundreds of different
ways to draw cartoon characters and settings.
Comics
Comics are like cartoons, but are done in the form of
image panels placed side-by-side. These panels are often
accompanied by speech bubbles, captions, and onomatopoeia
to indicate dialogue, narration, and sound effects.
These panels then make up comic books, graphic novels
newspaper comics, and occasionally online webcomics.
Anime
Anime is basically a cartoon, but it is easily distinguished
from any other cartoon. It is usually characterized by
vibrant colors, distinct visuals, and lively settings.
Many consider 'anime' as a genre of cartoons. However,
anime actually means 'animation' in Japanese.
Most westerners may consider it to just be a Japanese
cartoon, but it's really just a type of drawing.
