FUN NOTES

Welsh Corgi is a generic name for two breeds of herding dogs (Pembroke and Cardigan) dating from the early 12th century in Wales. The Pembroke was brought to Wales in A.D. 1107 by Flemish weavers and the Cardigan was brought to Wales by the Celts about 1200 B.C. The name "corgi" comes from the Welsh language and means "dwarf dog". This "ci" or yard-long (Welsh yard) dog was highly valued by his family as affectionate companion, guard, general farm worker, and driver of cattle.
Ancient Welsh law provided for severe penalties to those who harmed or stole one of the little "corgwyn" because the corgi's talents could help determine his family's economic status.
