Out of the five families, the Colombo Family is the youngest. In 1928 Joseph Profaci started the Profaci Crime Family. He ruled until the late 1950's, when he died of cancer. After a tumultuous war, Joseph Colombo took over the family.

Today, the family is lead by mob boss Carmine "Junior" Persico.
