  My Quilted Heart           Fabric required for My Quilted Heart
  • 1/4 yd. each of as many prints desired to construct pieced hearts.
  • 1 1/2 yds. light colored solid (used in lattice and nine patch corner blocks).
  • 1 1/2 yds. colored print fabric (used in lattice, nine patch corner blocks and first 2" border)
  • 2 1/3 yds. contrasting solid color (used in nine patch corner blocks and second 1" border
  • 2 yds. colored print fabric (used in 7 1/2" border).
  • 5 1/.3 yds. for backing
  • 1 yd. for binding.
  • Batting to measure 69" X 94"
 
             Instructions  
  (1/4" seam allowances are used throughout )  
 
  1. Quilt is composed of 15 blocks.To construct, transfer pattern pieces A-D and the guide to template plastic or a thin cardboard Be accurate. From choosen prints, cut 30 of each of A, C, and D. Cut 15 of pattern B and 15 of reverse B.
    • On all the B pieces, run a gathering stitch close to the upper curved edge. Lay guide on wrong side of B, matching the inner corner. Pull up gathering thread slightly and curved edge of B will gently shape itself around the guide. Press curve in place. Remove guide. Repeat for all B pieces.
    • Baste B pieces to A, matching the inner corners. Half of the pieces will be for the left side and half for the right side. Hand applique in place. Use sewing thread that matches the piece being appliqued and use tiny stiches. Sew right half to left half, press seams to right side.
    • Sew all C's to D's in a curved seam, press seam toward D. Sew right half to left half, press seam to left side.
    • Sew top half of pieced heart block to botttom half. You should have 15 of them that are 9 1/2" square.
  2. Construct lattice strips and 9-patch corner blocks.
    • From #1 fabric, cut a strip 2 1/2" wide across the width of the fabric.From #2 fabric, cut 2 strips 1 1/2" wide across the width of the fabric. Sew #2 fabric to each side of #1 fabric. Press seams toward the center. Strip of fabric will look like this:
    • you will need to make eleven strips like this. From ten of them, cut (38) 9 1/2" lengths. These will be used in the lattice.
    • From the remaining strip and the end pieces left, cut (24) 2 1/2" lengths. These will be used in the 9-patch coner blocks.
    • From #3 fabric, cut 2 strips 1 1/2" wide across the width of the fabric.From #2 fabric, cut 1 strip 2 1/2" wide across the width of the fabric.Sew #3 fabric to either side of #2 fabric, press seams toward the outside. Strip of fabric should now look like:
    • Make two strips like this, cut the strips into (48) 1 1/2" legths. These will be used in the 9-patch corner blocks.
    • To complete the 9-patch coner blocks, sew two 1 1/2" lengths to either side of a 2 1/2" length, press seams toward outside. You should have enough lengths cut to make 24 of these blocks and they should measure 4 1/2" square.
    • Sew four blocks to three 9 1/2" lengths, press the seams toward the corner blocks. Make 6 of these sections.
    • Sew four 9 1/2" lengths to side edges of pieced heart block. Press seams toward pieced heart blocks. Make 5 of these sections.
    • Join rows together to make the center section of quilt..Center quilt top is now complete except for the borders.
