  Around the Twist            Fabric required for Around The Twist
  • Background-6 1/2 yds.(5 yds. for piecing, 1 1/2 yds. for borders)
  • Main Fabric-4 yds. (2 yds. for piecing,2 yds for borders and binding)
  • Accent Fabric- 12 1/2 yds.(2 yds. for piecing, 10 1/2 yds. for backing and last border)
  • Batting (king size 120" X 120")
 
             Instructions  
 
  1. Cutting Requirements
    • Background
      1. Cut 15 strips 8" wide into 63 squares 8". Using the 2 1/2" SPEEDY, cut 3 corners off 24 squares, cut 4 corners off 35 squares, and cut 2 corners off 4 squares for the corners.
      2. Cut 3 strips 12" wide into 7 squares 12". Cut these squares with an X yeilding 28 setting triangles. This will not float the design.
      3. Cut 2 squares 8 1/2" diagonally to yeild 4 corners.
      4. Cut 4 strips 3" wide into 48 squares 3" for the Twist blocks.
      5. Cut 10 strips 4" wide for the second border.
    • Main
      1. Cut 14 strips 3 " wide into 96 rectangles 3" by 5 1/2" for the Twist blocks.
      2. Cut 5 strips 3 3/8" wide into 55 squares. Then cut these squares diagonally to yeild 110 triangles for the snowball blocks.
      3. Cut 9 strips 3" wide for 1st border.
      4. Cut 11 strips 2 1/2" wide for binding.
    • Accent
      1. Cut 14 strips 3" wide into 96 rectangles 3" by 5 1/2" for the twist blocks.
      2. Cut 5 strips 3 3/8" wide into 55 squares. Then cut these squares diagonally to yeild 110 triangles for the snowball blocks.
      3. Cut 4 strips 5" wide lengthwise from the sides of the pieced back for the 3rd border.

  2. Piecing and Assembly
    1. Add the corners to the snowball blocks.Use the diagram to see which fabrics are used in each row.
    2. Assemble the twist blocks.
      1. There are four rectangles and one square in this twist block.
      2. To piece it, take any of the rectangles and sew it to the square, only halfway down the square. IMPORTANT sew all the squares in the same order once you start.
      3. Open it up and sew the second strip from edge to edge.
      4. Keep adding the remaining retangles making sure to begin and end matched.
      5. Go back and close up the unfinished seam.
    3. Assemble into rows, sew rows together.
    4. Add borders
    5. Assemble the backing
    6. Pin the quilt top batting and backing together and quilt.
