Serie 5 Fighters
The serie 5 (series 5) fighters were the last attempt of the Regia Aeronautica to develop fighters that could compete with the allies new and improved fighters. There were three different serie 5 fighters the Macchi C.205, the Fiat G.55 and the Reggiane Re.2005. All three of these fighters were developed from the vaunted Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine. Which one was the best is often debated but the unfortunate truth for the Regia Aeronautica is that the Italian industry could not produce enough of any of these impressive planes.
