Manned Moon Landings
Throughout most of the 60's the U.S. was involved in something known as the Space race. This was a race against the rival nations to accomplish goals in space before the other country. The Soviets won most of them, sending something to space first, sending someone to space first, and many others. The one thing that the US did first was arguablythe most important one; landing a man on the moon.
Apollo Mission
The Apollo missions were dedicated to sending Americans into space. President Kennedy
later repurposed the program for landing Americans on the moon. Apollo 11 was finally the mission
that accomplished this goal, landing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon. Later 5 more
Apollo missions also accomplished this goal, leaving 12 total people to walk the moon.
Neil Armstrong
Buzz Aldrin
Pete Conrad
Alan Bean
Alan Shepard
Edgar Mitchell
David Scott

These men are the first in hopefully many that will be on another celestial body.
Many more projects are planned for the moon, and eventually Mars.
