Norm Van Brocklin
Norm Van Brocklin was the Minnesota Vikings first head coach in the teams history.
Van Brocklin came to the Vikings after playing professional football with the Rams and coaching with the Eagles.
Norm Coached the Vikings from 1961 to 1967 compiling a record of 29-51-4.
Harry Peter "Bud" Grant
Harry Peter "Bud" Grant, the Minnesota Vikings 2nd head coach and the most well known and well renound
coach in the Vikings history. Grant was the first coach win the division and take
the Vikings to the Championship and Superbowls. Grant would take the vikings to a
total of 4 superbowls, losing each one.
Les Steckel
Les Steckel coached the Vikings for the 1984 season after being hired as a wide recievers coach,
in his first season as a head coach he posted a measly 3-13 record which led to his termination at the end of the year,
Bud Grant was brought in to replace Steckel for the following year.
Jerry Burns
Jerry Burns, started out as a offensive coordinator for the Vikings under
Bud Grant
was hired as the Vikings Head coach in 1986 and coached until
1991 when
he retired,
Burns retired with a record of 52-43 and led the Vikings
to the playoffs 3 times.
Dennis Green
Denny Green was a pupil of the San Fransisco 49ers heard coach Bill Walsh,
Denny used his knowledge of walshes famous "west coast" offense when comming to coach the Vikings.
Green was only the 3rd African American coach in the NFL history (Art Shell and Fritz Pollard succeeded him).
Dennys Most memorable year would have to be 1998 when the Vikings went 15-1 in the regular season but lost in the
Championship game to the Atlanta Falcons on an overtime fieldgoal.
Green Boasted a 97-62 record from 1991-2001 with the Vikings.
Mike Tice
Mike Tice (2001-2005) took over the head coaching position after Dennis Green was fired,
he was only supposed to be an interim coach for teh end of the year but was later signed to be the full time Coach
Mike was fired in the beginning of 2006 to make room for Brad Childress.
