Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Hoquiam, a small town near Aberdeen, Washington. He was the first child born to Donald Cobain and wife Wendy O'Connor. He has a sister, Kim, who is 3 years his junior. 8 years into his life, the divorce of his parents and its aftermath transformed him from a happy and bright child into a total outcast. Soon, he discovered rock music and in 1985, Cobain quit high school and around this time, tasted his first dose of heroin .

In 1987, he formed a band with fellow Aberdonians, bassist Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard on drums (eventually replaced by Dave Grohl). They when through several names including Pen Cap Crew, Skid Row, Ted Ed Fred and Windowpane, before finally calling themselves Nirvana. The beginning of a new era in rock & roll history was about to take place. In the fall of 1987, Cobain moves to Olympia where he co-hibited with his girlfriend, Tracy Marander. Months later, he started to experience bouts of chronic pains in his stomach.

Soon, they went through a series of gigs and recordings and later, a signing with Geffen DGC Records en route to their stardom. By the way, Cobain smashed his first guitar at a Halloween dorm party at Evergreen State University in Olympia. In 1991, Nirvana's groundbreaking album, Nevermind was released. Soon Nirvanamania swept across the U.S. and the album started topping charts and grabbing awards over the world.

A year later, in February 24, 1992, Cobain and Courtney Love, leader of the punk band Hole, tied the knot in a secluded spot in Waikiki, Hawaii. In August 18, their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain was born amid rumours that Love used heroin during her pregnancy.

In early 1994, Cobain fell into a coma while on tour in Rome, the result of consuming 50 doses of valium-like prescription drug and large quantity of champagne. He awakened after 20 hours.

12 days later, Cobain locked himself in a room with a revolver, threatening to end his life. Love summoned the police and his gun was confiscated. In April 1994, he escaped from the Exodus Recovery Center in Californa, only 2 days after checking in.

April 5, 1994, Kurt Cobain ended his life with a shotgun. He was 27.
