Generation Six (C6)

Home C1 C2 C3 C4 C5

The sixth generation started in 2005. It has exposed headlamps for the first time since 1962, a larger passenger compartment, a 366 cu in (6.0 L) engine, and has a shorter and narrower body. The C6 has a relatively low drag coefficient and weight, so it gets 18/27 mpg (city/highway) with an automatic transmission. The manual transmission gets slightly better at 18/28 mpg.The 6-speed manual transmission also has a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds, while the automatic is set up for quicker shifts giving the C6 Automatic a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, faster than any other production automatic Corvette.
The new ZO6 came out in 2006 and has a 7.0 L version of the small block LS7. The officially certified output is 505 hp, can do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, 0-100 in about 7.3-8.2 seconds, and a quarter mile in 11.4 seconds. It's top speed is 198 (electronically limited). Car and Driver chose the ZO6 as the winner of their three-way comparison test of performance cars, with the Porsche 911 GT3 finishing in second, and the Lotus Exige S in third.
The C6 ZO6 has aluminum instead of steel for the primary structural element. It's dimensionally identical only a lot lighter. The 2007 ZO6 has retuned suspension. 2008's ZO6 has the new TR6060 six speed manual transmission, improved steering rack, and interior plastic bezel.
