Wizard Rock! It well... Rocks. Wizard Rock! bands write songs all about Harry Potter. When I was introduced to Wizard Rock! there was only a handful of bands. Since then, so many have popped up that I could not possibly keep track of them all.
Harry and the Potters:
These guys are the pioneers of Wizard Rock! Paul and Joe DeGeorge write all of their songs from Harry's POV. They have 3 CDs released, a 7" vinyl, and a Christmas compilation (all of which are great!). On their Summer Reading and Rocking tour, they rocked out in libraries all across the country as a way to encourage kids to read. And after seeing one of their high-energy shows, I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't want to read (or re-read) such awesome books as Harry Potter.
Their songs are catchy and often times hilarious. A person could very well spend a twenty minute bus ride singing "The Foil (Draco Malfoy)" over and over. Check out some of their music at MySpace.
Draco and the Malfoys:
Wizard Rock! is great, but Draco and the Malfoys don't play just plain old Wizard Rock! They specialize in Evil!Wizard Rock! which is totally understandable since they write all of their songs from Draco's POV, and he's a fairly evil guy. You can find some of their more humorous songs like "My Dad is Rich" and "Your Family is Poor" on their MySpace.
The Moaning Myrtles:
Emo!Wizard Rock! As you may have figured out by now, they write songs from the perspective of our favourite toilet-dwelling ghost, Moaning Myrtle. (They can also be found on MySpace.)
(The Myrtles with Joe DeGeorge Harry Potter.)
The Remus Lupins:
The Remus Lupins consists of just one guy: Alex Carpenter. Unlike most of the other Wizard Rock! bands out there, Alex doesn't write all of his songs from one character's perspective. He says figuring out who's POV it is is part of the fun (and I agree). He has an album out (Spells from a Broken Wand) and has composed music for PotterCast. (Oh, and of course, he's on MySpace too... Who isn't?)
