"The Earth has music for those who will listen." - William Shakespeare.

"The old Indian teaching was that it is wrong
to tear loose from its place on the earth anything
that may be growing there. It may be cut off, but
it should not be uprooted. The trees and grass have
spirits. Whatever one of such growths may be destroyed
by some good Indian, his act is done in sadness and
with a prayer for forgiveness because of his necessities."
Wooden Leg (late 19th century Cheyenne)
"Will you teach your children what we have taught our children?
That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls
all the sons of the earth. This we know: the earth does not belong
to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected
like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of
life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he
does to himself. One thing we know: our god is also your god.
The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap
contempt on its creator."

pwave

This is the Purple Wave Petunia. Aren't they beautiful?
This was Flower of the Year for 2000.

ingrid

If it was up to my husband, all we would ever grow would be Ingrid Bergman Hybrid Tea Roses.
Wonderful scent, beautiful deep red color (the pic doesn't do it justice!)

peace

The Peace Rose.
Yes, this really came from my garden.
Even more amazing is the fact that I took the picture with just a digital cam!

beebalm

Bee Balm aka Lemon Balm.
In the year since I planted these, they have tripled in size. Bees do love them and they make super tea!

yellowstarlily starlily

I have quite a few different Asiatic or Oriental Lilies.
This year I planted a deep red to hilite the yellow and white lilies already established.

poppy

California Poppies.
Only an annual here in Minnesota, but so fun and easy to grow.
The flowers are so fine, they look like tissue paper!

coneflowers

Echinacea, more commonly known as Purple Coneflower.
The roots are full of medicine! Great for fighting colds and flu's. Indian medicine also known as 'toothache root'.
Chew on a piece of the root and see what happens :-)
