A blacksmiths single most important tool is his hammer. It is responsible for all of the metal shaping that takes place in the shop and being absent would bring the shop to a standstill. This one is a cross peen hammer the most commonly used by blacksmiths. the flat side is for general use, flattening things etc. and the narrow side is used for making things elongated.

The Blacksmiths tongs are also very important. They allow the blacksmith to manipulate the metal, turn it around, and work with it while it is at near molten temperatures.

The hardie is important because it is used to cut metal. if a blacksmith had to saw his metal all of the time then things would get kind of tedious. it is made to be inserted into the square hole in the anvil so that a blacksmith can have easy access to it while working hot metal.
