The Zuiyo-maru Sea Monster
navlizard In 1977 the japanese fishing ship Zuiyo-maru netted this strange catch. Right away the sailors knew it was unlike anything they had seen before. Unfortunately the awful stench of the corpse forced them to throw it back after these photos were taken. When the crew returned home with their tale it spawned a monster craze not seen in Tokyo since Godzilla.
The debate as to the nature of the beast was of course heated. The verdict from the scientific community was that it was the half rotted corpse of a basking shark. But the evidence was not strong enough for a straight answer.
