When working with images for the web, always think of image dimensions in pixel size.  Set your image editing software to display pixels.  Not inches or dpi.
This image is 230 pixels wide
 by 153 pixels high.

Always work with the images in a high resolution, native format.  Always keep the originals.  Save a copy as a lower resolution jpg or gif for use in the web site.
